Tomoe Gozen vs Trieu Thi Trinh Weapon Preview

Tomoe Gozen Weapons
Katana: There as never been a sword so beautiful, so deadly, and so recognizable than the katana. The blade was a thin, slightly curved, and capable of cutting right through human bodies. As impressive as it's killing power was how the weapon was made, which only the most skilled of blacksmiths could do. The weapon was composed of Tamahagane, a specialized Japanese steel, which was folded upon itself numerous times to increase it's strength & durability. When the Katana was completed, it was immediately put into water to cool. This action created the signature curve that the west recognized as a Katana blade.

Naginata: This was the weapon that made Tomoe Gozen a name among Japanese warriors. Standing in a 7 feet, 5 feet of the weapon composed the shaft, while the remaining 2 feet were the blade (sometimes the blade was 2 1/2 to 3 feet). Masters of the weapon (almost always women, since the men that went into battle used the Yari, a similar weapon) were capable of unleashing a fluid series of attacks, all of which would either slash or stab.

Yumi: Before the Samurai mastered the Katana, archery was their calling card, and their tool in such endeavors was the Yumi. As long as the Naginata, the Yumi was made from a single piece of wood, reinforced with leather to made the bow a bit more durable. Because of the Yumi's length, the arrows shot from it had tremendous force behind them. Some archers even mastered the tactic of shooting their opponent's eyes out, bypassing any need to shoot at an armored body.

Fan Knife: Carried by many women in the Japanese nobility, the Fan Knife was a beautiful yet deadly weapon. Disguised as an ordinary fan, the inside concealed a blade that was generally anywhere from 3 to 5 inches in length. This allowed a user to hold a weapon in public without being seen as a warrior, or at the very least someone knowledgeable in fighting.

Trieu Thi Trinh
Jian: An elegant blade used by the nobles & commanders of China, as well as the Vietnamese who eventually acquired it. Early version of the blade were made of bronze, but when iron became common place, this practice all but ceased. Designed as a one-handed weapon (with some possibly designed for two-handed use), the Jian's double-edged straight blade gave the user a light and fast weapon that was highly effective at slashing, as well as piercing. According to Chinese legends, the weapon was so fast, it could cut through the water without getting wet.

3-Section Staff: Think of this weapon as a pair of nunchaku hoped up on steroids. The 3-Section Staff was...just that. To be more serious, the weapon was composed of 3 separate pieces of wood, each of which were equal in length, thickness, and material used. The section were then held together by small chains, usually 3 to 5 links long. Although the weapon was somewhat unwieldy due to it's construction, it was still capable of impressive bludgeoning damage.

Chakrum: Another weapon that eventually traveled to Vietnam, only this time it came from the mystical land of India. The Chakrum was a metal ring (usually made from brass or steel), edged on the outside, and smooth on the inside so the user could grip it safely. From there, the user could throw it underhand or spun around on a user's pointer finger. What was most impressive about the design of the weapon was that because of it's aerodynamic shape, it couldn't be deflected by the wind.

Katar: A weapon for warrior who want to get right up and cuddle with the enemy. There were actually two version of the weapon: one solid blade, or a trio of blade. Regardless, both were fitted over the user's hands, and used as punching weapons. The sheer force behind each blow meant that bones would break, and internal organs would be destroyed.
