Setup
Deep in the African plains, Ubute the Zande was looking for food for his tribe. He was far from his home, as the resources around his tribe's home was getting thin. Seeing an opportunity to show that he was a man, Ubute went onto the plains for something that would feed the tribe. Something like a wild hog, or an antelope, would be able to sustain the tribe for a day or two.
It had been at least a half-day away from the safety of the tribe. He had little to eat, but the desire to help the tribe kept him going. He was going through some bushes, when he spotted an antelope. It was strangely large for it's size, but it looked perfect for consumption. He took his Kapinga and was aiming for the creature's neck, when a dart-like object landed straight into it's head. He placed his knife back down, then noticed who killed the creature.
He was a large person. About 6 feet tall, to be exact. He had long black hair, and had some of the wildest eyes Ubute had ever seen. What was most striking about this fellow was the black tattoos on his face and chest. His white skin almost mistook him for a primitive white man, but Ubute realized that no white man would ever look like this.
Ubute was not going to let this savage take what was his tribe's. He crept through the brush until he was close, then picked his Kapinga up again. He gripped it vertically, then threw it. The whirling blade sliced through the air, but it gave away his position. The savage heard the knife, turned around, then rolled out of the way. The Kapinga hit a nearby tree with a thud, and was as stuck as ants in sap.
Ubute cursed himself for his poor aim, but it was then that he and the savage meet eye to eye. The desire to kill the other and take the antelope welled up in both of there heads. Ubute took off his Botto Bow, and knocked a poisoned arrow. The savage simply charged at him, oblivious of Ubute's bow. Ubute released the poisoned arrow, and it landed straight into the savage's shoulder.
Not even flinching, the savage plucked the arrow from his shoulder, and tossed it to the ground. Getting angry, he picked up what looked like a spear with bone barbs, and went straight for Ubute.
Ubute picked up his Makrigga spear, and charged right at the savage. The two closed in, and began trying to stab the other. The savage was particularly fierce, swing around his barbed spear, getting a few scratches on Ubute's chest. Getting angry, Ubute thrusted his Makrigga right at the savage's belly. The tip managed to go in a little bit, but the savage simply grasped the shaft of the spear, and took it from Ubute. The savage gripped the spear with both hands, and broke it over his leg, then threw the pieces into the grass.
Ubute started to worry. His spear was broken, his throwing knife was stuck in a tree, and his bow was behind him, far out of his reach. All he had left was his Makraka, a blade as curved as a sliver moon. The savage still had his barbed spear, and was poised to eviscerate Ubute's organs with it.
Both warriors were now in a state of cautious rage. Both wanted to kill the other, but were hesitant to get in close. The savage began thrusting his barbed spear, but points were broken off when Ubute swung his curved knife. The shards harmlessly fell to the ground, and the shaft was tossed aside by the savage.
The savage ran, and Ubute gave chase. His foe was on the run, and he was not about to let him go.
3 minutes later, and Ubute was in sight of a small pond. Two giraffes were walking towards the watering hole, and bent down for a drink. The sight of the two animals gave Ubute a sense of peace, sending him a messge of being alright with the natural world. Walking over to get a drink himself, Ubute heard the brush behind him moving. He turned around, and saw nothing. He was finally at the pond's edge, when the sound of the savage running towards him. He spun around in time to block the oncoming onslaught. He knocked the savage to the ground, and tried swinging the Makraka at his downed opponent.
The savage just rolled out of the way, and got back up onto his feet. Ubute saw his mud-incrusted opponent pick up a wooden club studded with razor-sharp teeth. The two warriors went in close, and started swinging furiously. The savage managed to land a blow across Ubute's chest, when he all of a sudden just dropped his weapons, and started shaking. It must have been the poison from the arrow finally taking effect, Ubute thought. The savage was still shaking, but the curved blade going through his neck stopped all of that.
