Atilla the Hun vs Shaka Zulu Weapons Preview

Atilla the Hun Weapons
Sword of Mars: Named after the god of war, the Sword of Mars was a very power weapon. This one-handed sword had two cutting edges on it, not just one. Due to it's light weight, the sword easily flew through the air with great ease, and it's iron composition gave the weapon a little bit of bludgeoning power when going down on a target. In regards to the sword's name, quoting the work of historian Priscus, the Roman historian Jordanes gives this story:

"When a certain shepherd beheld one heifer of his flock limping and could find no cause for this wound, he anxiously followed the trail of blood and at length came to a sword it had unwittingly trampled while nibbling the grass. He dug it up and took it straight to Attila. He rejoiced at this gift and, being ambitious, thought he had been appointed ruler of the whole world, and that through the sword of Mars supremacy in all wars was assured to him."

Lasso: More commonly found in the hands of American Cowboys, this weapon was also in the hands of Hun horsemen. The Lasso was nothing more than a rope made out stiff fibers, giving it strength and durability. The intent of this weapon was to get the loop around someone's neck while the user was on horseback, and hopefully getting a hangman's fracture in the process. If the person didn't die from the fracture, then they would more than likely die from strangulation or ramming into something like a rock or a tree.

Hunnic Composite Bow: Of all the weapon in the Hun's arsenal, the bow was the most recognized of them all. Made out of wood and sinew, this bow was responsible for most deaths caused by the Huns. While it could have been used on foot, it's greatest strength layed in the fact that it could be used on horseback. A group of Hun horseman could ride right through a village, kill most of it's inhabitants, and then get on foot to finish off the straglers.

Scythian Axe: A rather unique weapon in the Hun arsenal. Adapted from a tool found in the Asian steppes, this axe was capable of ripping open anything. What was most unique about this weapon was the curved axe head, allowing the weapon to glide right through the air. If the axe head wasn't used, then the pick on the other side would pull away shields, and get right into a human skull.

Shaka Zulu Weapons
Iklwa Spear: Invented by Shaka himself, the name of the weapon comes from the sound of it going into a body, and the sound of it getting pulled out of the body. The spear itself is rather strange. Rather than a traditional two-handed spear, the Iklwa was a one-handed spear with almost a dagger-like blade. Primarily a thrusting weapon, the Iklwa could also slash if the user desired to.

Spit of Poison: An ingenous weapon among the Zulu people. They would gather the berry of a particular herb, and chew it to mix it in with their own saliva. Then, all they had to do was simply spit it in their opponent's eyes, blinding them momentarily and disabling their ability to fight. However, the two biggest problems were that the poison only blinded, and that it could only be spat up to such a short distance.

Iwisa Club: Also known as a knobkierre, the Iwisa was very popular among the Zulu people, and the tribes of eastern Africa. Composed of nothing more than a length of hard African wood, the Iwisa could be used to bludgeon opponents up close, or it could be thrown, knocking somebody out or killing them outrights. Sometimes, the head of the club was carved with symbolic faces or shapes, making it a more spiritual weapon.

Zulu Axe: A brutal weapon of the Zulu people. The axe was composed of a haft of wood, with a half-moon shaped blade placed at the top. The axe was two-handed, allowing the using to use his strength & momentum to bring the blade down on a target, usually amputating heads or other limbs. Because of the length of the axe haft, it could also be used for blocking, and the axe head could hook onto enemy weapons and pull them out of their hands.
