Roman Centurion vs Spartan

Beginning Analysis: What happens when a commander from the mighty Roman Empire takes on Ancient Greece's most iconic warrior? Read on to see who...is...deadliest!?

Roman Centurion
Short Range: Gladius Sword
Medium Range: Plumbata Darts
Long Range: Pilum Javelin
Special: Tower Shield
Armor: Riveted Chainmail & Iron Helmet

Spartan
Short Range: Xyphos Short Sword
Medium Range: Spartan Spear
Long Range: Spartan Javelin
Special: Spartan Shield
Armor: Bronze Breastplate & Helmet

Who Got the Edge
Gladius vs Xyphos: Both swords get the edge. They're the same size & weight, and they inflict similar wounds on a target.
Plumbata Darts vs Spartan Spear: The Plumbata Darts get the edge. While the Spartan Spear is a fearsome weapon, the ways that it is used, as well as it's weight, can be brought into question. The darts, on the other hand, weigh nowhere near as much as the spear, plus they can pierce through the Spartan's armor, and the Centurion can carry multiple projectiles.
Pilum vs Spartan Javelin: Both long range weapons get the edge. Given their shields, it's entierly possible that these weapons may not get any kills. If either of these weapons do hit however, they'll definately deliver a kill, with a slight edge to the Pilum for it's ability to get stuck & bend once it gets into an armored target.
Tower Shield vs Spartan Shield: Both shields get the edge: They're large, in charge, and will block just about anything that comes their way.
Riveted Chainmail & Iron Helmet vs Bronze Breastplate & Helmet: The Spartan's armor gets the edge. The Centurion's chainmail might be lighter and allow for more movement, and it may deflect piercing weapons better than butted chainmail, but it offers nowhere near as much protection as the Spartan's breastplate. As far as helmets are concerned, both are equal, since they completely cover each warrior's head.

Setup
It was dark and foggy within the woods. The trees would creek at the slightest touch, creating a eery sound that would echo through the entire area. A Spartan warrior was wiping off blood from his Xyphos, which was well spilled. Earlier, the Spartan had been patrolling the fields nearby, when an assailant dressed in black had snuck up behind him, and tried to assassinate him. Luckily, after a fight that lasted a couple minutes, he had stuck his sword straight through his attacker's stomach. His attacker was now lying against a vine-covered mound, blood still trickling out of the wound.
After wiping off the blood, the Spartan picked up the rest of his weapons that were lying about, and proceeded to head out of the forest. He began going through the brush and back into the sunlight, when he spotted someone out in the field. Ducking behind a small bush, The Spartan leaned out to take a look at who was, and was quite surprised by what he saw.
A lone Roman Centurion was wandering the fields, looking very tired and slightly confused. He must have been in a fierce battle, the Spartan thought to himself. If he wasn't, then he must have abandoned his men to whatever fate they received, and ran away in fear for some reason. Sensing some kind of cowardice, the Spartan began creeping forward to put an end to this individual.
The Spartan got into a small thicket of bushes, and grasped his Javelin in his right hand. Feeling the breeze swirling around his body, the Spartan finally let loose his weapon when the Centurion was within distance, and when the wind was just right. The Javelin flew through the air with the grace of a hawk. The weapon was within striking distance, when the Centurion somehow heard the Javelin flying towards him. He raised his shield, and the weapon got stuck. With a tug, the Centurion pulled out the Javelin, and threw it to the ground.
Startled by his opponent, the Spartan retreated back into the forest to regroup, and to setup his Roman foe for an ambush. The Centurion gave chase, intending to silence his Greecian attacker.
A few minutes later, the Centurion arrived in the forest. It reminded him of the woods in Ireland where he once commanded. Fearing that a similar savage would attack him, so he took one of his Plumbata Darts from a sack hanging off of his leather belt. He walked around looking for his attacker, when the Spartan tumbled out from behind a tree. The Centurion threw his dart, and it went right into the Spartan's breastplate. The Spartan began tugging on the dart, all the while not paying attention to the Centurion charging him. He finally pulled out the dart, and was greeted by shield to the face. The Spartan flew against a tree, and slid to the ground.
The Centurion drew his Gladius, and walked right over to the apparently unconscious Spartan to deliver the final blow. Just as he was about to stick the sword right through the breastplate and into his opponent's heart, the Spartan suddenly awoke, grasping his Spear, and slicing it back and forth to give him some distance.
The Centurion was now in a spot of trouble. He had no surefire way to counteract the Spartan's Spear, other than a few extra Plumbatas in his sack. He was pushed by his attacker's weapon, still thinking about how to close the distance. In an instant, the Centurion started running further into the woods, and the Spartan now was giving chase. Hopefully there'll be some thicker woods that'll disable that spear, the Centurion thought to himself.
A minute later, and the Centurion arrived in a thicker part of the woods. Mist was creeping through the underbrush, and almost covered the entire ground. This will be a good place to finish this, the Centurion thought. He crept up onto a small dirt mound with a dart in hand, and out of sight in case the Spartan was coming from a different direction. A few seconds later, the Spartan arrived at the same stop, not noticing the Centurion getting ready to ambush him. Just as he passed the mound, the Centurion finally threw his second dart, which landed right square into the Spartan shield. The Centurion lept down to strike, only to be met by a shield of brozne smacking him to the right. He flew into a tree, and slid to the ground.
The Spartan picked up his spear, and went right over to stab the Centurion, when his foe woke up, and grabbed the weapon. After a few minutes of a tug of war, the Centurion miracuously took the spear from the Spartan, and broke the weapon in two. Drawing his Xyphos, the Spartan tried to stab the Centurion right in the head, when the Gladius his opponent was using rose up to block the attack. The two warriors then began trading blows with one another, and the sound of iron clanging against iron wrung throughout the forest.
After a few minutes, the two were still fighting. Despite being a bit tired, they both weren't giving each other an inch. Finally, in a desparate and possibly insane moment, the Centurion thrusted his Gladius right into the Spartan's breastplate, and drawing blood. The Spartan pushed his opponent to the side, and retreated to tend to his wound. As he was moving away, the Centurion got back up on his feet, with a Pilum ready to be used. After a few seconds he threw it right at his foe, who made the mistake of looking back. The Pilum went right through the Spartan, and pinned him to the tree. While the Spartan was struggling to get the Pilum out, the Centurion picked up his Gladius, walked right over to his pinned opponent, and slit his attacker's throat. After a couple seconds of shaking, the Spartan stopped showing signs of life. The Centurion sheathed his sword, and a single thought appeared in his head.
"Now that's been taken care of, it's time to find that Indian guy that killed me."

Roman Centurion: 615
Gladius: 200
Plumbata Darts: 200
Pilum: 200
Tower Shield: 15

Spartan: 385
Xyphos: 50
Spartan Spear: 85
Spartan Javelin: 50
Spartan Shield: 200

Ending Assessment: Despite being from around the same time frame, the Centurion had a better grasp of the battlefield than the Spartan had, and a better weapon selection.
Strongest Weapon: Both sides had strong weapons. The Centurion's Gladius, Plumbata Darts, and Pilum Javelin, as well as the Spartan's shield, got 200 kills each.
Weakest Weapon: With just 15 kills, the Centurion's Tower Shield takes the weakest weapon spot of this fight.
