Julius Ceaser vs Cyrus the Great Weapon Preview

Julius Ceaser Weapons
Gladius: This was one of the longest used weapons in the Roman Army. In actuality, the word Gladius was just a basic term to describe any kind of sword, and it was the basis of the word Gladiator. The weapon itself was almost 18 inches long, and had a tapered point that made it great for stabbing. Despite it's thrusting abilities, the Gladius can also cut and slice very well. The handle of the weapon was made out of corrugated bone (more than likely animal) that was ridged for individual fingers, and had a round pommel to keep the hand from sliding off.

Pilum Javelin: A good weapon up close, and a great weapon to be used at range. The Pilum was composed of a medium sized wooden shaft, and a length of iron with a small pyramid-shaped head. This brought the weapon's length to 6.6 feet long, and the weight ranged from 4.4 to 11 pounds. Although a user could throw the Pilum up to a maximum distance of 100 feet, it was really effective from 50 to 65 feet. What is most interesting about this weapon was that the metal section was designed to bend and break once it hit something, disabling any attempt for an opponent to throw it back.

Scorpion Crossbow Turret: More commonly known as the Scorpio, the Scoprion was a one man siege weapon. Essentially the Scorpion was a crossbow mounted on a stand, where one soldier could use it. Loaded with iron tipped bolts, the operater could fire them up to 100 feet if they were firing at individual targets, or up to 400 feet if they were going for spread fire. The Scorpion's only problem was it's reloading: a user could fire 3 or 4 bolts a minute, and it would take on average 15 to 20 seconds to reset things.

Dolabra Pick-Axe: The Dolabra is to the Roman Army what the E-Tool is to the Green Beret. A tool used in excavation, mining, religious animal sacrifices, it was eventually acquired by the Legion as their primary entrenching tool. When situations denied them access to their regular weapons, the Dolabra became a surprising useful item. Julius Ceaser himself used a Dolabra in an ambush against his camp when he served his time in the Legion.

Roman Breastplate & Tower Shield: Easliy the most recognizable armor in the world. Composed of the Lorica Segementata (breastplate composed of iron plates tied together) and his helmet (which had a  variety of crests on top to identify rank, and to intimidate enemies). In addition to offering protection from a wide variety of attacks, the  armor also allowed the wearer to easily identified by the soldiers under his command. In addition to the armor, there was always the Scutum, or Tower Shield. This would block just about any ranged projectile, and stop most  incoming melee attacks with ease.

Cyrus the Great Weapons
Scimitar: Beautiful & deadly, the Scimitar was a weapon very well known in the Middle East. The lengths would be varied because of the numerous cultures that used the weapon, the one thing that it did have in common was it's curved blade, complete with a bladed edge, and weighted construction so that it could also have limited bludgeoning capabilities. The Scimitar usually wasn't heavy, so it could be swung around with great speed.

Persian Spear: The primary weapon of the Persians during their time. The spear was an impressive six feet long, with a iron ball on one end, and a flat broadheaded tip on the other. Persian soldiers would use the spear like the Spartans would: they would grip in in one hand and use it in a overhand fashion, but they could also use it with two hands, and take advantage of the weighted end's ability to be used like a mace.

Persian Bow & Arrow: If the Persians wouldn't kill you up close, then they'd always kill you from far away, and the bow was their favorite tool for doing such a task, The bow was of a composite & recurve variety, meaning that there was more tension with each pull of the string. The arrows were also large, coming in at roughly 2 1/2 feet long, complete with a triangular bronze tip. The arrows weren't necessarily great for piercing armor and shields, but they were good for laying down incredible amounts of fire.

Chariot Scythe: The Chariot Scythe was like a spinning rim made out of a buzzsaw. Two feet long, the scythe was structured in a plus-style shape, complete with serrated blades along it's length. When the chariot was moving the scythes would spin along with the wheel, building up energy. When the scythe made contact with an enemy's legs, they were immediately cut off, and the wounded soldier would die from bleeding out, or a spear wound if another Persian was nearby.

Bronze Scalemail & Wicker Shield: These two items were worn by every individual in the Persian Army. Their primary piece of armor was a breastplate of leather and overlapping scales. Worn under their robes, the scales would protect the wearer from slashing attacks, but too many blows to the armor would cause it to break, and that's what the shield was for. Although made from subpar materials, the shield wasn't heavy, and it could actually block a lot of light attacks without suffering too much damage.
