Polish GROM vs South African National Defense Force

Beginning Analysis: What happens when a spec-ops group from Eastern Europe takes on the military force of South Africa? Read on to find out who...is...deadliest!?

Polish GROM Quick Bio

When you think of Poland, you usually don't think of military power, but GROM defies usual thinking. Formed on July 8, 1990, this spec-ops group actually has it's origins in the 1970 & 80s. In that time, there were several special forces groups made, but they were either pure military or pure counter-terrorism. After the Polish Embassy in Bern was taken over in 1982, a general of the Polish Army, General Edwin Rozłubirski, proposed that a military force should be made to combat terrorism and other unconventional problems. The idea was rejected by the People's Army of Poland, but fate has a way of changing things. In 1989, two Polish diplomats were shot in Beirut who were working on helping Jews get to Israel, Lt. Col. Sławomir Petelicki went down to secure safe passage for civilians & Polish diplomatic outposts. After the return to his native country, he proposed the idea of a counter-terrorism group to the Ministry of Interior, who gladly accepted the idea.

South African National Defense Force Quick Bio

Formed from the ashes of the South African Defense Force in 1994, SANDF is the current military of South Africa. SANDF is made up of four groups: the South African Army, South African Air Force, South African Namy, and the South African Military Health Service. As for the soldiers themselves, they are made up of new recruits, and former members of the various guerilla groups that served the political parties during Apartheid in South Africa. By 2005, the South African military was "crumbling", but it continues to defend the country for threats within & without.

South African Defense Force Weapons
Short Range: KA-Bar Knife
Medium Range: Striker Shotgun
Long Range: BXP Submachine Gun
Long Range (Explosive): Miklor MLG Grenade Launcher

Who Got The Edge
Recon-1 vs KA-BAR: Both knifes get the edge. Watch Navy Seals vs Israeli Commandos for details
Benelli M4 Super 90 vs Striker: Both shotguns get the edge. They're both semi-auto, but the Benelli weighs less when unloaded (3.8kg compared to the Striker's unloaded weight of 4.2kg), has a longer barrel (470mm compared to the Striker's barrel length of 457mm), and has a slightly better effective range (shoots up to 55 meters, while the Striker shoots up to 50 meters), while the Striker has a higher ammo capacity (holds 12 shells, while the Benelli holds 6 shells).
MP5 vs BXP: Both submachine guns get the edge. The MP5 has a longer barrel (225mm compared to the BXP's barrel length of 208mm), but the BXP has larger clips (takes 22 & 30 round clips, while the MP5 takes 15 & 30 round clips), a higher rate of fire (1000 rounds a minute compared to the MP5's firing rate of 800 rounds a minute), and can accept a variety of enhancements (takes a variety of muzzle devices, silencers, heat shields, and grenade launchers, as well as laser aiming modules and collimating sights).
HK69 vs Milkor MLG: The Milkor MLG gets the edge. Although the HK69 weighs less when unloaded (2.76kg compared to the Milkor MLG's unloaded weight of 5.3kg), the Milkor MLG has a better firing action (fires like a multi-shot revolver, while the HK69 is a single-shot breech loader), has a greater effective range (fires up to 400m, while the HK69 fires up to 350m), and holds more explosives devices (holds 6 grenades, while the HK69 holds only 1 grenade).

Common Quality
Newer: Both of these warriors are relatively new to the world of special operations & military work. GROM has been around a little over two decades, and has been valuable in the areas of special operations and unconventional warfare. With the South African National Defense Force, they've been around for almost two decades, and are important to post-apartheid South Africa as a military force.

Setup
It was a bright, calm day off the coast of South Africa. Today was a training day for a unit of the South African National Defense Force. They would be training on an abandonded shipping tanker, to get used to occasional combat situations on board a ship. Led by Lt. Makumba, they got into a jeep, and drove out of their post to the ship. Little did they know, that today would be a training sesson they wouldn't forget.
They were driving along the coast road, when they saw the shipping vessel off in the water, not far from the beach. They also noticed two small motorboats on the beach, and immediately became suspicious and alert. When they got to the entrance of the beach, they stopped the vehicle, and got right out, ready to fight. They walked right up to the motorboats to investigate, when five soldiers appeared from the top of the ship. Makumba didn't know who they were, so he attempted to communicate with them.
"Unidentified military forces, this is Lt. Makumba of the South African National Defense Force. You are to identify yourselves at once!"
At first there was no reaction. A second later, a soldier in body armor appeared at the railing, and looked like he was going to fire at Makumba and his men at any moment. Makumba still wasn't able to identify what group the soldier was from, until he saw something shining on the soldier's shoulder. He raised his binoculars, and took at look through. He saw a silver eagle, and in it's claws was a pointed lightning bolt. Makumba then realized that the soldier belonged to GROM, Poland's premier spec-ops force.
"Hey, who the hell are you yelling at?" the soldier shouted.
Makumba lowered his binoculars. "Well, now that I know who you belong to, do you mind telling me what you're doing here?" he asked.
"This is our training vessel." said the soldier. "Today's our day to train on this vessel."
Makumba rubbed his eyes. "No, this is the property of South Africa and it's military." he said with an irritating voice. "Why don't you get your Polish ass off our ship, and perhaps we can work something out."
The GROM soldier just laughed. "I don't think so darkie." he said.
Makumba was furious by that statement. "Say that again." he growled.
"Darkie." the GROM soldier said. He waited for a second to see if Makumba would reply. In fact, Makumba did reply. He walked back to the rest of his men, and ordered them to raise their guns, and the GROM soldier slowly reached for his MP5. By the time he grabbed the gun, Makumba and his men opened fire on his position. After a minute, the rest of the GROM squad appeared, and added a little heat to the fire. One of the soldiers landed a shot on Makumba's left hand man, and his body banged up against the jeep and slid right down with a disturbing squeel.

Makumba ran towards his comrade's fallen body, and picked up the BXP that he was using. He loaded in a fresh magazine, and shot right back at the Polish. Some of his shots destroyed an MP5, and some of the others went through the throat of a nearby gunman. He stumbled for just a second, then fell right over the railing of the ship. His body made contact with the water, and sent up a small geyser of briny fluid.

The GROM soldiers continued firing for a few moment, until they retreated into the ship. Makumba's men kept firing, until their clips were completely empty. Before they reloaded, one of Makumba's men went over to speak about what they should do next.
"Lieutenant, what are your orders?" the soldier asked.
"Board the ship." Makumba replied. "We're dealing with a small squad. Calling in a larger force would be just a waste."
Makumba and his men reloaded their weapons, and grabbed one of the motorboats GROM used to get on the ship. The motorboat's engine revved up, and they sped away towards their destination. After just two minutes, they arrived at the ship, and saw the ladder that GROM used to get on the ship. Tying the motorboat to a small metal ring, Makumba and his men grabbed the ladder, and climbed up. Makumba had one soldier in front of him take point, and two soldiers behind him to take point. If there were GROM soldiers going to ambush them from behind, then they would be ready.
At last, they arrived at the top. Makumba send the man in front over the edge to scout out the area, while he and the rest of his men stayed on the ladder. After a few seconds, the soldier came back, signaling to them that the coast was clear. As the soldier was helping Makumba up, a GROM gunman was sneaking up with a HK69, and loading a round into the barrel. He spotted Makumba about to climb up over the edge, and fired off the shot. Makumba noticed the round coming at him, and dropped back down the ladder. His soldier was turning around, just as the grenade exploded at his feet. The explosion sent the body flying off the ship, and into the water's depths.

Makumba saw the body fly over the railing, and waved to the soldier behind him to send up the Milkor MLG they brought. As the grenade launcher was handed to him, another GROM soldier arrived to assist the other. They were firing at the ledge where Makumba and his men would appear over in an effort to scare them off. It didn't work, as Makumba raised the launcher just above his head, and fired off a shot. The round was too fast for the GROM commandos to track, and it exploded right between then. The metal shard went flying around, shredding up the soldiers, and the heat crisped their skin right up.

Makumba tossed the grenade launcher up, and waited to see if any GROM commandos would come to investigate the racket. After a few seconds of not hearing anything, he and the other two soldiers climbed over the ledge. When they got to the top, they were worried that the metal would collapse. The vessel was an old one, and Makumba's superior once told him that he worked on it when he was younger. It had been, despite not having anyone on it, floating in the ocean. Over time the salt water had eaten the majority of the paint off, exposing the naked metal to the briny elements. The ships sometimes looked like a burnt corpse floating around to ships in the distance. After checking their surroundings, Makumba and his men reloaded & readjusted their weapons, then huddled together to plan out their attack.
"Alright, we don't know how many more GROM are on this boat. It must be a small group, cause we've killed 3 of them."
"Then what do we do?" asked one of Makumba's men.
"First, we need a protected escape route." replied Makumba. "You stay here and keep an eye out for us and anyone that tries to come this way. Me and Zakimbe will go into the ship as see who else is here. With any luck, we'll only be in there for a few minutes, and we'll come back up."
The soldier nodded. He began a patrol of the front portion of the ship, while Makumba and Zakimbe went down into the bowels of the wreck. Just as the two disappeared from sight, The soldier went over to pick up the Milkor MLG that Makumba tossed up. As he was walking over to pick it up, he didn't hear the commando sneaking up behind. Just as the soldier slung the launcher over his shoulder, the commando stuck a knife in the base of his skull. The soldier's body flopped for a few seconds, then fell down as the commando pulled out the knife.

Meanwhile, Makumba and Zakimbe were wandering through the dank hallways of the ship. Luckily, there were holes throughout the hull letting in streams of sunlight, and giving them some help in seeing the inside of the ship. The wind and waves from the outside were creating some strange noises echoing throughout the entire vessel, as they gave off the illusion that the ship was haunted. Makumba and Zakimbe were made of stern stuff, and they weren't frightened by the noise.
The two rounded a corner, when they spotted one of the GROM commandos. They fired on his positon as he just noticed them. The commando layed flat again a steel wall, reloaded his MP5, and returned fire. As the gun fight was going, Makumba & Zakimbe didn't notice the other commando sneaking up on them. It was almost going to be like what happend above, but Zakimbe heard something crunch on the floor. He quickly turned around, and let off the Striker he was holding. The pellets from the shells he fired went right through the commando, shredding up his stomach and intestines.

Zakimbe let out a small chuckle as the blood from the GROM commando pooled up. However, pride was about to go before his fall, when the surviving commando shot at his back. Zakimbe's body fell, and the front of his skull cracked as it hit the floor.

Makumba ducked into the room behind him as he saw Zakimbe get killed. It wasn't dark, but there were plenty of spaces to hide in or around. Drawing his KA-BAR, he waited for the commando to come in so he could slit the bastard's throat. Sure enough, the commando came in, and Makumba jumped on him, trying to cut open his foe's skin. He got shoved off, but he still held onto his knife. He stood back up, and saw that the Commando unsheated a small blade. A Recon-1, Makumba asked himself?
The two stared at each other, then ran right towards each other. The two collided, and fell back onto the ground. Makumba was stunned for a moment, then he got up again onto his feet again. Right away, he noticed that his knife wasn't near him. He looked at the GROM commando's body, and saw that his KA-BAR was stuck in the commando's throat. "I didn't slit it, but this works just as well." Makumba said to himself.

Ending Assessment: This was another close matchup. Ultimately, the South Africans were able to defeat GROM with their fierceness, their dedication, and their more brutal weaponry.
Strongest Weapon: The SANDF takes the strongest weapon spot in this battle, as their Milkor MLG Grenade Launcher gained them 300 explosive kills.
Weakest Weapon: With just a measly 10 kills, GROM's Recon-1 Knife takes the weakest weapon spot.

  1. Hey.

This is areshuls from the old spike boards.

Its good you make a seperate post with a description of the weapons. I like it because you show the weapons.

Great fighting scene and you really put a lot of detail in it. I liked reading it.

There is only one small point on which I have a bit of advise for you. With the edges, I notice that the weapons come out to a draw the most of the time. I always try to avoid having a draw between two weapons because there is always a reason why one is better, no matter how small the reason is.
My suggestion is that you try to study these weapons some better before you give the egde and try to avoid a draw.
