Roman Centurion vs Rajput Warrior (Modified & Redux) Weapon Preview

Roman Centurion Weapons
Gladius Sword: This was one of the longest used weapons in the Roman Army. In actuality, the word Gladius was just a basic term to describe any kind of sword, and it was the basis of the word Gladiator. The weapon itself was almost 18 inches long, and had a tapered point that made it great for stabbing. Despite it's thrusting abilities, the Gladius can also cut and slice very well. The handle of the weapon was made out of corrugated bone (more than likely animal) that was ridged for individual fingers, and had a round pommel to keep the hand from sliding off.

Pilum: A good weapon up close, and a great weapon to be used at range. The Pilum was composed of a medium sized wooden shaft, and a length of iron with a small pyramid-shaped head. This brought the weapon's length to 6.6 feet long, and the weight ranged from 4.4 to 11 pounds. Although a user could throw the Pilum up to a maximum distance of 100 feet, it was really effective from 50 to 65 feet. What is most interesting about this weapon was that the metal section was designed to bend and break once it hit something, disabling any attempt for an opponent to throw it back.

Roman Bow & Arrow: Woe to anyone who was in a siege with the Romans. The Romans used a composite bow that was primarily composed of a single piece of wood, and supported with leather. The bow was rather large, as it was almost 6 feet long from one tip to the other. The bow also had an impressive draw weight, measuring in from 30 pounds to 60 pounds. The arrows shot from this bow generally had iron tips, which easily pierced most armors of that time.

Tower Shield: Besides their impressive armor, Roman soldiers & Centurions also brought into battle a Scuta, which was more commonly called a Tower Shield by some scholars. The shield was generally about 4, sometimes 5, feet tall. Composed entierly of wood, the only other things adorning the Scuta was a single iron boss right in the center. Because of the shield's size, it could block just about every form of ranged attack, and when grouped together to create the turtle formation, there was very little that could break through.

Roman Breastplate & Iron Helmet: A Centurion isn't a Centurion without his easily identifiable armor. The most easily identifiable parts to the Centurion's whole ensamble were the Lorica Segementata (breastplate composed of iron plates tied together) and his helmet (which had a red crest on top to identify his rank, and to intimidate his enemies). In addition to offering protection from a wide variety of attacks, the Centurion's armor also allowed him to easily identified by the soldiers under his commando.

Rajput Warrior Weapons
Khanda Sword: The Khanda is to the Rajput, what the Katana is to the Samurai. Composed of steel, and measuring in a 3 feet long (excluding the handle), the Khanda was a double-edged sword capable of downing any opponent in front of it. What made this sword interesting was the fact that the sword did not have a pointed end, making stabbing attacks practically useless. Instead, Rajput would use the weapon purely for slashing or hacking. The blade was also rather heavy, which also made amputating limbs rather easy.

Gauntlet Sword: A highly exotic weapon, even in the land of India, the Gauntlet Sword was a Katar hopped up on steroids. Made up of a gauntlet (hence one of the reasons why the weapon got it's name) that covered up the warrior's hand more than a Katar, and a sword blade that was usually 3 to 3 1/2 feet long, this weapon gave the Rajput unbelievable thrusting power. The blade could also slash and hack just an incredibly, and coupled with the fact that the weapon couldn't be disarmed through the normal means (although it could be broken if attacked at the right spot).

Chakrum: A very exotic weapon in the Rajput arsenal. The Chakrum was a metal ring (usually made from brass or steel), edged on the outside, and smooth on the inside so the user could grip it safely. From there, the user could throw it underhand or spun around on a user's pointer finger. What was most impressive about the design of the weapon was that because of it's aerodynamic shape, it couldn't be deflected by the wind.

Katar: A weapon for warrior who want to get right up and cuddle with the enemy. There were actually two version of the weapon: one solid blade, or a trio of blade. Regardless, both were fitted over the user's hands, and used as punching weapons. The sheer force behind each blow meant that bones would break, and internal organs would be destroyed.

Rajput Chainmail & Steel Helmet: Like the Samurai, the Rajput had stylish yet effective armor. The chest armot was composed of a shirt of riveted chainmail, with silk cloth covering the outside of the armor, and a layer of leather on the inside. This setup protected the Rajput from numerous slashing attacks, but the right kind of piercing attack could still get through. As for the helmet, it was nothing more than a (sturdy) skullcap. Some helmet had a veil of steel in front, while others didn't have the veil.
