Batman vs Max Payne

I'm getting my lazy ass back to to finish these fights! With that said, let's get down and dirty with the 2nd to last fight of this blog, where Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, takes on one of video games's most unfortunate policeman. Let's get it on!

Batman Quick Bio

Taken from the wikipedia page:

"Batman is the secret identity of Bruce Wayne, an American billionaire, industrialist, and philanthropist. Having witnessed the murder of his parents as a child, he swore revenge on criminals, an oath tempered with the greater ideal of justice. Wayne trains himself both physically and intellectually and dons a bat-themed costume in order to fight crime. Destroyed, Fallen-From-Grace, Vigilante, Gunman: these words describe the cop known as Max Payne. Appearing on the scene back in 2001, Max Payne told the story of NYPD officer Max Payne (The game had the same name as the main character), a man that had it pretty good in life. When he comes home one day, he runs into a group of drug-crazed lunatics, who've slain his wife, along with his baby daughter. This begins the spiral of alcoholism, drugs, and depression: after getting framed for the death of a fellow officer, he begins a quest of vengeance, and discovers a mess of secrets, betrayal, and two-faced individuals. In his second game, Max had his vengeance fulfilled from the first game, but uncovers a new web of treachery, and the pain from the first game is still fresh in his mind. He takes out the bad guys, but the victory feels hollow. Then things come to a head in Max Payne 3: he runs to Brazil, both to escape the New Jersey mob, and to escape the pain of everything he knew. At first some of he past catches up, and the job he's working on goes to hell, but after some self discovery, he becomes a clean & somewhat changed man.

Who Got The Edge
Spiked Gauntlets vs Brass Knuckles: Both weapons get the edge. With the Spiked Gauntlets, they act in more of a defensive manner. Though they can some horrific cuts & wounds, they're really useful in catching incoming weapons like lead pipes & baseball bats, and taking them away. The Brass Knuckles are much more offensive. They really can't do anything defensive, but they can add to the strength of someone's punches, thereby making melee attacks more potent.
Batarang vs M9 Beretta: Both weapons get the edge. The Batarang is one of Batman's most iconic tools. Shaped like the herald of the night, he can throw one out to flip a switch, cut a rope, or disarm an enemy. It's biggest problem is that it might not be his deadliest tool, although it can indirectly cause someone's death (Rupturing a gas tank, for example). With the M9, you have a tool that's radically different. Not only can it do things like the Batarang (Depending on the task in question)
Explosive Gel vs Molotov Cocktail: The Explosive Gel gets the edge. While the Molotov Cocktail can cause some horrific damage, there are downsides. It is entirely possible for the flames to reach you if you're too close, and it could even explode in your hand if someone strikes it while the cloth is lit! With the Explosive Gel, you can be a little more tactical and precise, not to mention that it's actually safer (Surprisingly enough).
Martial Arts vs Street Fighting: Batman's Martial Arts gets the edge. Street Fighting can be filled with a variety of moves & styles, allowing you to be fluid in hand-to-hand combat. The biggest problem with Street Fighting is that it really can't fit one specific scenario, and learning it is more organic than anything else. Martial Arts might not be the most adaptable (Depending on the fighting art in question), but there's always a situation for a specific style of fighting.

Common Quality
Tragic Figure: Both of these warriors are known for being very tragic individuals. The origin story of Batman is incredibly well known among comic book fans. Seeing his parents die at the hands of murderous gangsters burnt an image into his mind. An image that would be carried with him until he was an adult, where it would be used as a catalyst for his transformation into one of the most famous superheros ever drawn. Max Payne is a lot liked the caped crusader: he was witness to the death of loved ones (In this case, his wife & baby daughter), and this violent scene ignited a spark of vigilantism & self-destruction. By the 3rd game, he's pretty much hit rock bottom, but after a personal discovery of self, he becomes clean, but his goal of taking out the trash is still set in his mind.

Batman vs Max Payne Weapon Preview

Hey guys. It's been a couple months since my last matchup, and I can still smell explosive materials. After finally getting some energy to finish my matchups, I've compiled the weapons that my next two combatants will use. With that said, let's look at what the iconic Dark Knight will use against against one of video games's most tragic figures. Enjoy!

Batman Weapons
Short Range: Spiked Gauntlets

When Batman gets in close to the bad guys, the first (And last) thing they see are his Spiked Gauntlets. Though they're on the sides of his hands rather than directly on them, they can still damage someone. Not only that, but the gauntlets can also be used in a defensive manner: if a thug with perhaps a pipe or baseball bat comes at you, the spikes can hook onto the weapon is question, and maybe disarm with the flick of the arm.

Mid Range: Batarang

An iconic tool in his arsenal, the Batarang is Batman's calling card. A solid piece of black metal, the Batarang can do a variety of things. Activate switches, knock weapons of out people's hands, and tripping bad guys are just three things this versatile weapon can do.

Explosive: Explosive Gel

More of a tool than a actual weapon, Batman's Explosive Gel still has it's uses. It can be sprayed onto walls & activated to distract enemies, placed on explosive materials to create larger explosions, or maybe even stuck on enemies to take them out quickly.

Fighting Style: Martial Arts

If you're a fan of Batman, that you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Caped Crusader is a master of martial arts. His ability to take out gangsters, thugs, and all other manner of crook with various fighting styles is impressive, and woe to anyone that tries to stand up to the Dark Knight.

Short Range: Brass Knuckles

If you're a criminal, or a cop on the run, chances are you'll have one of these. A simple piece of steel (Ironic, given the name of the weapon) designed to fit over fingers, knuckles make a punch have more oomph, increasing tissue damage and the chance for bone to break.

Mid Range: M9 Beretta

A classic pistol, among civilians, the military, and various police forces. The M9 is a very compact gun: it can easily be hidden in clothing, and taken out in almost an instant. On top of that, the M9 Beretta has plentiful ammunition, and a fair-sized magazine, making for an accessible firearm.

Explosive: Molotov Cocktail

An explosive device that practically anyone can make, the Molotov Cocktail is one of the simplest bombs around. Made from nothing more than a glass bottle (Typically a beer or wine bottle), a noxious fluid (Gas, Napalm, or a combination of various flammable materials), and a rag inserted into the top to light things up, the Molotov Cocktail is a fireball in a bottle.

Fighting Style: Street Fighting

If you've grown up on the streets of the inner city, you had to learn how to defend yourself. Sometimes you picked up boxing, other-times you incorporated wrestling into your moves, or you just mixed a bunch of things together to create your own way of fighting. It might not be the most practical, but it allows one to shift mindsets between fights as one allows it.
